The logical thing for me to do when we bought the lovely dilapidated old 14th century house, Bagatelle, right in the middle of the ancient village of Charroux in the Bourbonnaise, was to continue with the Green Point Village Cook’s Club Classes there.

Thus, during the past 16 years countless food loving people have passed through the Roman gate of this medieval village in the heart of France to share a meal around the kitchen table of Bagatelle after ‘hunting &gathering’ at the local markets.

And now the 34L Rosieres chef’s cauldron is gently taking care of a serious chicken stock in front of the open window facing the 40 year old Maenner-family’s mustard shop in rue De la Poulaillerie … with the odd Frenchman calling out a convivial ‘bon appetit’ through the window as he passes by. All of this, as well as walks in the countryside, playing a spot of boule, cooking and sharing lunches and dinners around the generous hard-pear table in Bagatelle’s kitchen, I love to share with food friendly travelers who can find their way to the station in Vichy.

We’ll meet you at Vichy station. Charroux is a gentle 45 minute drive away and built on top of a deceptively ‘little’ hill. The journey there will take you through the middle of rural France… Charolais cattle – think Auvergne cheese platters – castles and large rivers, fruit bearing trees and tiny country roads are de rigueur on our way there. During the six-day stay with us you will visit food markets and ‘brocantes’, cook together and spend time in the most beautiful historically protected and restored medieval village in France.

Bagatelle and the little barn were built around a courtyard and pretty garden, off an ancient cobbled lane. We cook in the kitchen-cum-dining room, dine from ancient plates with antique silver on white embroidered linen. We drink from antique market sourced glasses and Bohemian flutes …

We want all of you to, on the day, arrive at Vichy station travelling on the direct Paris 09h00 train which arrives from Gare Paris Bercy at 12h00.

The cost of the 6 days with us in Charroux – which includes lunch, dinner, all liquid refreshments, wine, all road transport, cooking classes and demonstrations as well as all other excursions – is E2300 per person.

All guests are usually accommodated at any of the two guesthouses in Charroux where breakfasts are included. There are also comfortable and elegant private self-catering stays available in the village. All accommodation is for your own arrangement and all relevant costs for your own account.

Your place on the Charroux Cook’s Tour will be reserved for 48 hours and confirmed with a payment of 50% deposit. The balance is payable 90 days before the start of the Cook’s Tour. If you want to join us, contact me for the relevant banking details.

Cancellation policy:

  • Current – 90 days a 25% cancellation fee will apply.
  • 89 – 45 days prior to arrival a 50% cancellation fee will apply
  • 44 – 0 days prior to arrival a 100% cancellation fee will apply.

Our cancellation fee is applicable regardless of whether payments have or have not been received by Bagatelle.

Travel Cancellation insurance/Cancelled or Delayed flights:

In the unlikely event of a cancellation of a booking, travel insurance must cover our cancellation terms. In the event of any flight delays or cancellations, Bagatelle is in no way responsible for any loss whatsoever.

Please ensure that travel insurance is taken out to cover all such eventualities.
